Journey Alignment Display Options
Looking at the flow of the Visitor or Conversation Journeys can be very insightful. The date range and other filter options can be adjusted to focus on the required Visitor events. The default view is left aligned or in other words, based on the start of the Visitor on Conversation stream onward, and this can have some limitations to gaining the best insights, so there are other powerful and useful display options available.
Often during analytics we want focus on more a detailed view, perhaps on a specific Location of the flow or on the end of streams or conversations and what came before or after. For example, do the majority of people go to the checkout after adding to a Basket or what are the common paths to an Add to Basket, or indeed simply see the end of the Streams and how the majority of Visitors are ending a conversation.
In the first example, the challenge with the normal display is that an Add to Basket Location event will not very often occur in the same step of an interaction. For some visitors on a specific day or in a specific Conversation the Add to Basket might be the 4th step, and for some the 8th, 9th etc. In the default display this means that they will not “line-up” in the view, they will not appear in the same vertical position, so it is very challenging to focus on what proceeded or followed that event. For more information and understanding on this, refer to the Overview of Journey Analytics Calculation page.
So when wanting answer specific questions, like “Show me the 5 most comment streams paths leading up to an Add to Basket”, the Analyst does not care if there were 5, 10 or any number of Location interactions leading up the Add to Basket, the focus is what this events were. Within Alterian's Journey Analytics, the Analyst can select the Add to Basket as the End Point, selecting it from the Specific Location option with a right align view.
In the first diagram below, Add to Basket can be seen as the 4th and 5th interactions in the common streams
but setting Add to Basket, right align, all Add to Baskets are lined up on the right of the screen allowing an instability more accessible view of what lead up to it. In this case largely a Product View, with a small number coming from pages were direct add to basket links were available.
Not providing a specific location allows right-align on the default view. Furthermore using the Side by Side function, the proceeding and subsequent events can be viewed easily using the start and End options. To revert back to the standard display simply select none from the Set drop-down.
